Innovative Design = Operational Advantages

Khowutzun Freegro’s unique design is specially geared to make it easier and less costly to transport, install, remove (for reuse) handle and store. One of the design’s main features is that it can be fully-nested into a very compact unit. Its nested volume per unit is less than a third of tube-like shelters and this means that one can transport 3 time more shelters on a pallet, in the back of pickup truck, in a planter’s bag or in a helicopter sling.  Operationally, this makes it much easier and less costly to handle.

The second main design feature is the Freegro™ friction grip clip.  This allows for a fast snap on adhesion to and subsequent removal from the support stake.  The clip is set up so that, once installed, it is very secure.  To install, one has to tension the shelter to the stake (i.e. see installation SOP  and installation video) by sliding the friction grip clip down the stake.  In doing this, the back hook of the clip bites into the stake and the tension keeps it tight to the stake at all times.  Support stakes can dry out over time and shrink.  This constant pressure keeps the hook dug into the stake.  It cannot slide back and un-tension if the stake shrinks. Not having proper tension would increase the sail and make the shelter less wind-firm.  The specific design and associated installation SOPs/best practices prevent the stake from being un-tensioned.  It is however easy to un-clip and remove (see removal SOPs and removal video)
